The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) gathered this week in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to discuss the implications of GM seeds, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and the G8 Alliance for Food Security in Africa.
AFSA will gather and participate in workshops to discuss how GM seeds, AGRA and G8 Alliance represent a global agenda “to corporatise and thereby profit from African agriculture, rather than meet the needs of African communities and farmers.”
More specifically, the workshop will allow African farmers and civil society organizations to develop strategies to counter corporate control of African agriculture and promote strategies based on agro-ecological and food sovereignty principles.
AGRA Watch will soon report back on the specifics of AFSA’s meeting.
