At CAGJ’s book event promoting Our Food, Our Right in Berkeley on November 8th, Raj Patel gave a talk outlining the logic and technologies that prompted the first Green Revolution. He explains that there are more calories produced in the world today than ever before, but that people are still starving. The problem, he argues, is not that we need to produce more food, but rather that we need to figure out a better mode of food production and distribution, namely agroecology. Patel also discusses some specific problems that can be addressed to create more sustainable food communities, including gender dynamics in a Malawian community.
