As large-scale land grabs continue to plague the African continent, indigenous water systems are being destroyed as industrial agricultural operations move in. It is a common misconception that Africa’s water resources are underutilized; however nearly all of the land deals in Africa involve large-scale agriculture, which consumes huge quantities of water.
Since Africa’s water resources are limited, the new land grabs are creating tension between local peoples and those involved with new agricultural development.
