As the Gates Foundation and other supporters push for AGRA as a solution for world hunger, a movement largely led by women farmers is pushing back. These women note that food sovereignty, rather than abundant use of Western-style agriculture techniques favored by AGRA, is the surest way to reach food security. It is also important to note that women make up the majority of the world’s small scale farm producers. Member Fatou Batta of Groundswell International, an organization that partners with small-scale farmers around the world, explains that women do have the means to feed the world, but need economic and gender equity problems to be solved before this can happen.
